Deep South Today, the nonprofit network of local newsrooms that includes Mississippi Today and Verite News, today announced the appointment of Adam Schweigert as Director of Product and Operations.

Schweigert has been working with Deep South Today as a consultant for the past year leading the organization’s technology strategy. As a consultant, his practice focused on technology, operations, and product strategy for media companies, nonprofits, and media-related technology startups. He began his career in public media, leading digital transformation efforts at two local NPR/PBS stations. He also founded the technology and product team at the Institute for Nonprofit News, where he spent five years developing platforms and tools to help nonprofit news organizations solve technology, distribution, and revenue problems. He then worked at Mother Jones, helping the organization with a comprehensive revamp of their digital products, and then went on to work at Automattic on the WordPress VIP and Newspack teams.
As Director of Product and Operations, a new role for Deep South Today, Schweigert will oversee a broad portfolio covering operational efficiency and collaboration among the organization’s local newsrooms, product strategy for the network, audience development and growth, and the underlying infrastructure to help the local newsrooms create and distribute impactful journalism for the Deep South.

Schweigert’s first day as Director of Product and Operations with Deep South was December 30, 2024.
